"From Failure to Fortune - 50 Impactful Lessons for the Entrepreneur " is a compelling and insightful read for anyone aspiring to venture into the world of entrepreneurship. Garry Wheeler, the author, who attempted to launch a live and interactive video platform business for the music industry, shares invaluable lessons learned along the way.
One of the book's strengths is its practicality. Each lesson is presented in a clear and concise manner, making it easy for readers to understand and apply the principles to their own entrepreneurial journey. Garry's firsthand experiences add credibility and depth to the advice, making it more relatable and impactful.
Garry’s clear and honest review of his entrepreneurial experience is a gift for everyone considering building a new business. He even recaps his lessons at the end for quick and easy reference. Thanks Garry, for your ability to make the process both educational and fun!
I'm in the middle of a business launch myself. My launch is way behind my deadline, due to my busy schedule with my other businesses. I'm hoping to retire with my new business. I feel more relaxed after reading Gary's multitude of lessons. Grant it my investment is pennies compared to what he invested; however glad to know I stayed within budget and happily don't have to answer to investors. It was from riches to rags to riches again (in other forms). Glad to know he was able to reinvent himself at his age and put the failure behind him. Anyone considering starting a business needs to read his book and listen to his advice.
A must-read for anybody who wants to start a new venture. Garry’s 50 lessons are down-to-earth and easy to understand. I have been involved in start ups, and I started my own business — and I wished I had read Garry’s book at the time. Was I ready to ask myself the tough questions, such as ‘Are you ready to fail?’ or ‘How well do you know the market that you are contemplating going into?’
Garry’s list of 50 lessons is very much to the point, such as Lesson #9: Not hearing ‘yes’ from a VC means 'no thank you'. First, Garry lists the lessons and then he embeds them in the lifecycle of his venture Yellow Brick Road Entertainment. The lessons are put in context when he hears repeatedly from VCs to ‘come back when you have traction’.
Wonderful read that chronicles life in a start up. Love the anecdotes about how VCs never give you a no answer, but how anything but a yes is really no.
Wheeler's book provides a in-the-trenches, highly transparent account of his venture: the hundreds of details to manage and decisions he made as he navigated the twists and turns of his venture. Great illustration of how a new business is anything but a linear process.
Very engaging, quick and easy read, but packed with great detail. Wheeler covers the key topics you might expect from such a book...
But beyond that, it's refreshingly honest --- Wheeler is unafraid to call out his mistakes and also the impact his venture had on his personal life and family, a perspective i found really important and relatable for anyone thinking of leaving the corporate world to take the plunge and venture out on their own.
